House Games 2017 is offering an exceptional opportunity to see the Charles Wilkinson documentary film: Vancouver: No Fixed Address on Wednesday the 22nd of November at 7:30pm, in Jyväskylä, Finland.

This film about the specific housing crisis in Vancouver, Canada, can also be interpreted as a word of warning in a global trend. Charles Wilkinson directs a cinematographically stunning film, capturing different faces of Vancouver's past present and future.

Vancouver: No Fixed Address
The latest film from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Charles Wilkinson is Vancouver: No Fixed Address. The film takes a look at the Vancouver housing crisis. It had its world premiere at this year's Hot Docs International Documentary Film Festival in May with 3 extremely well-received screenings. Three of Wilkinson's previous films have premiered at the festival, including Peace Out, Oil Sands Karaoke and Haida Gwaii: On the Edge of the World, with the latter winning the top prize at the festival in 2015 for Best Canadian Documentary. The film then had its West Coast premiere at DOXA in Vancouver in front of a packed home town audience. The panel discussion after featured a number of the participants from the film. The discussion was impassioned.

In addition to these scheduled events, the performance group Enkeli Ensemble will pass through the exhibition periodically during the week and a couple other surprise events will be announced later on the House Games Facebook page.

House Gamesin erikoisuus on vuosien saatossa ollut näyttelyjen oheisohjelma, johon on kuulunut taiteilijapuheenvuoroja, tanssi- ja performanssiesityksiä, konsertteja ja erilaisia kotiin liittyviä ajanvietteitä, kuten peli-iltoja. Tänä vuonna House Gamesissa pääsee taas nauttimaan monenlaisesta oheisohjelmasta, kun asunnossa vierailevat muun muassa Enkeli Ensemble, Alex Jønsson, Sami Liuhdon taudinkuva, Linda & Aura. Viikon aikana järjestetään myös Charles Wilkinsonin “No Fixed Address” -elokuvan näytös. Kotimaiseen tapaan myös yllätysohjelmaa on tiedossa.

Vuonna 2017 näyttely laajenee kodin seinien sisäpuolelta myös kerrostalon ullakolle, johon toteutetaan valokuvanäyttely Cairon katoilta. Tuomme jyväskyläläiselle kerrostaloullakolle toisen maailman toiselta puolelta maailmaa. 

Tapahtuma on maksuton.

House Games 2017 Proposal Deadline: March 31st

Project proposals are now being accepted until deadline: MARCH 31st, 2017
We are welcoming proposals in all areas of the arts including performance, sound, visual arts, writing and installation. 

If you are interested in submitting a project proposal for the next House Games exhibition (2017), please send a free-form application including a project description, and project related image(s) if applicable (92dpi, minimum 10 x 15cm, maximum 5 images) to the email address below.
Applications are accepted in English, French or Finnish.

The next House Games triennial will be held in November 2017.
House Games strives to provide a non commercial, rent-free space for a broad range of artists to show new work on the theme of home. House Games provides and is responsible for: the exhibition space, the maintenance of the space, reception of the public, the hanging/installation of the artwork, invitations/posters, a catalogue and local publicity, at no cost to the artist. Upon negotiation, House Games might also pay for installation materials, digital printing and/or the return costs of the artwork and/or travel fees.

This project is a non-profit, artist-run event. The amount of financial aid House Games is able to supply is dependent on any possible grants and other financial support which varies from year to year. If a proposed project is accepted, the exhibiting artists are responsible for most of their own personal (show-related) expenses. Insurance of the artwork to, from and during the exhibition is the artist’s own responsibility. Artists are strongly encouraged to apply for project grants for the creation/transportation of their own projects from local institutions in their own towns/countries. House Games will gladly write you an official invitation upon demand, and help out as possible.

House Games IV 2.–8.11.2014 Riiko Sakkinen – Nutella Communism Suomalainen sisäympäristötaiteen pioneeri House Games-triennaali tuo kotitaiteen osaksi kaupunkikuvaa Jyväskylässä marraskuussa 2014. Järjestyksessään neljäs House Games juhlistaa kymmenvuotistaivaltaan esittelemällä kaksikymmentäviisi nykytaiteilijaa eri puolilta maailmaa. House Gamesin kotoisaan nykytaidenäyttelyyn osallistuu tänä vuonna muun muassa maailmalla nousukiidossa olevia taiteilijoita, kuten newyorkilainen PIMO ja vancouverilainen John Mutter, sekä kokeneita suomalaisia tekijöitä Riiko Sakkisesta Leila Lipiäiseen. House Games toimii myös kokeellisena alustana laajemmalle kulttuurin tarjonnalle. Viikon aikana näyttelytilassa pääsee nauttimaan kotiin sovitettuna niin nykytanssista, teatterista, musiikista, runoista, taiteen syömisestä, taiteilijapuheenvuoroista kuin kutomisestakin. Kodin henkeen sopien näyttelytilassa on aina tarjolla teetä ja kahvia. Joskus niitä joutuu jopa itse keittämään. Tämän lähemmäksi kotia ei taidenäyttelyssä enää pääse. John Mutter – How To Escape From Being Tied To A Chair Samalla House Games tarjoilee mahdollisuuden päästä näkemään ja kokemaan nykytaidetta ympäristössä, johon se eittämättä kuuluu. Asuinkäytössä näyttelyviikon ajan oleva koti vaatii kävijää ylittämään kaksi korkeaa kynnystä: vieraan kodin ja nykytaidenäyttelyn. Vastikkeeksi se tarjoaa ennenkokemattoman kodinomaisen galleriaympäristön, jossa voi nauttia laadukkaasta taiteesta sohvalla istuen tai kahvia keittiössä talon väen, taiteilijoiden tai muiden näyttelyvieraiden kanssa juoden. Näyttelyn käynnistää Metsästäjä-taiteilijaryhmän luovuutta käsittelevä kutsuvierasilta. Näyttelyviikon aikana Jyväskylässä työskentelee kanadalainen taidemaalari Lynn Price, joka tulkitsee suomalaista kotiympäristöä maalaamalla teoksensa näyttelytilassa näyttelyviikon aikana. House Games 2014

The House Games Triennial will be organized for the 4th time this year during the first week of November 2014:

November 2nd – November 8th, 2014
open from 5–7pm on weekdays and 3–7pm on Sun/Sat.

The first House Games was organized in January 2005, and so we are two months short of our 10-year anniversary!

This year we have 25 artists participating from 16 different cities. The exhibition theme revolves around the home through works that touch on the comfortable intimacy of home as well as though specific textures, colours and objects associated with the home environment.
